Winter on the south coast UK, can be very rewarding. Brighton pier has become synonymous with murmurations of common starlings.

The UK numbers are boosted my migrants from Scandinavia & the Steppes in the winter. They all seem to get along OK, especially when murmurating.

Viewed from near ground level, Agama agama claws are formidable. No wonder they're able to climb walls.

A Reed Cormorant in the early-morning sun

Is it sitting on my writing desk?

It's so clear and bright, I half-expect it to turn toward me.

The color and texture of the beak — superb!

Thank you!

Thank you very much @Tom Kellie. In a way, I wish it was sitting on your desk, but also that if so, it was sitting on a box of kitty litter!

Ha Ha!

The 1 year old Pekingese in my house, Yubi, would be frightened by such a sight.

Whether he'd bark in challenge, or cower in the sofa, I don't know.

He's accustomed to doves at the bird feeder near one of his water dishes.

He's certainly no attack dog, nor is there any pointer or spaniel instinct in him.

What he's skilled at is running in a tight circle, tail plume moving, showing that he knows something unusual is present.

Any bird would be safe with him...but...would he feel safe from a reed cormorant with intensely red eyes?

@Tom Kellie, I am pretty sure all three our little dogs would go absolutely nuts if one came and sat on our desk.

@mvecht, thank you very much.
