We were for four days in the park and this only one we saw. Giraffe is common in the park, and note the big hurting in the back leg!

Unusual because you don't often see giraffes and mountains in the same photo

Not sure how unusual this really is, but it always makes me smile. Looks like she just wants to say "Hello"

I recently witnessed some unusual giraffe behaviour that I have never seen before. (Well, it may not be that unusual, but I've never witnessed it before.)

I found a small group southern giraffe browsing.

While the females were feeding, the bull was playing with the young male calf.

The bull was gently swinging his neck and head around to lightly touch the calf and the calf was reaching up to rub the underside of the bull's neck.

This went on for quite a while and whenever one of them broke off the other would re-initiate the interplay.

Having seen giraffe bulls fighting, my guess was that this male was mock fighting with the youngster, as if he was giving him coaching on how to fight but I would be really interested if anyone could confirm or deny my theory.

I am not sure this is unusual (and its a bit of a rubbish shot in terms of clarity) but on a Saturday night in downtown Selous the Giraffe like a bit of a get together. We counted around 60 after this was taken as I couldn't get them all in shot. I'm pretty sure this is the most Giraffe I'll ever see in one place.

Game Warden

I've merged the two giraffe topics under one heading so that they don't all get lost. Don't forget that there is also a seperate Giraffe Sub Species Identification Topic, especially if you have photographed some of the rarer examples. Matt
