Aditya - is this caracal family from 2 years back or on your recent trip to Mara? Am headed there in Oct and have heard of a serval family that many people have been able to see, but wondering if I can push my luck :)

Anita the caracal was from last year but the caracal is from mid August. There is one female (near Double Cross) with three cubs. Some people had found her den and she was being seen regularly for a few days. A lioness tried to dig the serval cubs out from their den (in a termite mound) and the serval mother and cubs disappeared the next day, probably changed their den. We could not find her again in the next 15 days. However the serval picture posted here is of another female that we had found near the Talek River. I am sure you will find some servals - I saw four different ones in August. However no caracals in the 4 weeks that I was there and did not even hear of someone seeing caracals.

Thanks! yup I had read about the caracal family from 2010-2011 near Mara North but nothing recently this year. Fingers crossed for the serval cubs!

Taken yesterday. One of 2 young Servals, this one was calling for its mother to return from her hunting foray and climbing the tree to get a better look out into the plain!

@Game Warden

I use a Canon 500D, usually with a 100-400mm lens. As I said in my intro, I've been very lucky - but there's still so much more out there just waiting for me to visit. :D

Beautiful caracals, Kitsafari!

Here are a couple more photos of the same serval I posted before. We watched him hunt quite a while. Sometimes successful, sometimes not.

Wow! some wonderful shots of very elusive cats. Love the caracals, they look so relaxed, which is unusual.

Two shots of a Caracal on the road to Chunga in the KNP, taken on 1 Nov 2011 while I was staying at Mukambi Lodge. Thought at first it was a Serval, but then realised no spots.
