Congratulations, Hari!

Thanks, Sangeeta and all others who liked that post - appreciate your well wishes!!! Someone wrote me about the image and possibly publishing it when they saw it on my 500PX. That's the whole story behind it ending up there...... It all happened in a flash.

We'll start with a tribute to "the Steroid Boys" of Mombo, Botswana. This was taken in August 1997 on the way to the Mombo airstrip. Earlier that morning, we got the news at camp that Princess Diana had died.

Another famous coalition... the three brothers at Lewa, Kenya, March 2009. These three boys took to hunting ostrich and zebra.

Northern Serengeti, Tanzania - August 2007. There is a story with this one... at the old Sayari Camp, I met a guy who had been on 7 or 8 safaris and had never seen a cheetah. He booked Sayari for its reputation for cheetah sightings during the dry season. Unfortunately, at that time the prime cheetah spot was in the Lamai Wedge (which you can only get to by crossing a bridge across the Mara River). Due to the recent rains, the bridge was not crossable, and this gentleman, still with couple of days left at Sayari decided to switch plans... he was dead set and trying to see cheetah... he decided to wake up first thing in the morning and with his private guide/driver, drive all the way down to southern Serengeti, where general game may be scarce in August but there are some cheetahs for sure. Apparently, this gentleman left before sunrise. My party woke up a bit later than usual (it was our last day and we just had to leisurely get to the airstrip) and we cruised out of camp. About a half of km from camp, BAM! the most beautiful male cheetah sunning himself on a termite mound. I doubt the gentleman saw him.

We watched this cheetah off and on late afternoon until sundowner time. He was resting against a termite mound with impala in sight. We anticipated something happening but when nothing did, it was time for gin and tonics. No sooner were they poured when the baboons went wild. We threw everything back into the vehicle and turned around. We watched him walking, then running through the grass. A small herd of wildebeast were nearby and he took down this juvenile. So fast. As we headed back to camp, passing one lion after another, our guide told us that he would not open it up until morning. First thing the next morning we headed out to find him. He had just finished his meal. Success! Hwange 2010

Gorgeous animal. Wish to see King Cheetah one time :)
This was taken at Sirikoi, Kenya. Its a wild one, not Sheeba, which was around the house.
Cheers, Lajos

Thanks so much for this!!!! Really a great start to my day...... @@africapurohit

I'm hopeful she is still alive and well somewhere in the floods of northern Botswana. I last saw her in Oct 2008 and there have been one or two random reports since of having seen her - but, nothing conclusive. I think the closest lead we've had is from the Selinda report, although way back in perhaps 2010 or so. Sounds like an episode of "Homeland", no?

@@madaboutcheetah here's an old image for you. One of 3 siblings. Selinda 2005, taken just after the death of one of the 3 boys and most definitely the offspring of one of them.

@@Geoff - Thanks for that! Yes, i remember that litter from 2005. But, by November of that year there were only 2 cubs. Mum is definitely the one in @@africapurohit 's series above. John once mentioned that they called her Jude in the Selinda.

@@madaboutcheetah ~ Ah!, you have a good memory, I'd forgotten her name. John was in the vehicle with me at the time I took this and the image in previous post. A so-so image of her, unfortunately in the shade.
