Thanks Hari.

Marc - lovely shots - a real inspiration.

Looking at your equipment I was wondering if you had any experience with the 600VR?

Thanks for sharing

Nick

Thanks Nick

No experience with the 600VR, but I do know it's very similar in image quality, but NOT hand holdable, both are outstanding.

It took me nearly 6 months of searching just trying to get my hands on the 500 and I know the 600VR is even harder to acquire and even more expensive of course. My choice of the two would be the 500, due to it's lighter weight, better min focus distance, easier to pack in cabin luggage and occasional hand held usage.

Also, as good as the 200-400VR is, I sold mine to fund this 500VR purchase and haven't looked back. :o

Great additions to the thread Marc, thanks for posting: that last image, with the light, is wonderful. Is it fill in flash?

Thanks Matthew

This was taken with fill flash and vehicle spot light.

Cheers

Marc

I do have a bit of an unfair advantage though

Graham, you do not have an unfair advantage at all. Your profession gives you the opportunity to capture such terrific

shots on a much more frequent basis than we keen safari goers can manage. I'm just happy to be able to visit Africa twice

a year to spend time with the animals, birds and places that I love. My own photos are just a record of wildlife, people

and places to remind me of all the good times I've had. I so enjoy looking at all the wonderful photos that you expert

photographers put up on this forum for us all to enjoy. So thankyou to all the brilliant photographers who bring pleasure

to me and many others.

Some great photos here. It's taking me a while to catch up with all the great threads which were posted whilst I was away.

Graham, thanks for posting the images. Moreso than Jan, I rarely get to Africa myself, so seeing the amazing photographs serves as my virtual safari. Great pics everyone, great thread

OK, I'll give this a try. First a question, can I show an image that is in my gallery here??? Don't see how to do this.

So instead I will upload one and see if/how that works-

Ok, now lets do "Preview Post" and see if it pops up there-

Nope, didn't show in preview so will go ahead and post and see if it's there.

Image is of the Manyalethi male at MalaMala, Sep 2005.

regards - tom

edits

hmm, showing a thumbnail.

How do I make it show full size like Dyer and sniktawk???

Let's try a link to the photo in the gallery-

http://safaritalk.net/uploads/1265012141/t..._278_224397.jpg

And again -

http://safaritalk.net/uploads/1265012141/m..._278_224397.jpg

Still no joy.

try this

http://safaritalk.net/uploads/1265012141/g..._278_224397.jpg

Still no joy. Still only thumbnail. Oh well, that's enough "fun" for tonight. Maybe more guessing later.

I went into your gallery and copied the link for your image. In the reply window you see all the menu buttons with one having a little picture, click on this and paste the link into there. It should show up.

Lovely photo of a handsome leopard.

thanks twaffle, guess it was too late at night for me to find that!!!

so I'll try another photo, same leopard, same day, he was in tree with kill then came down to the water as above

Do I copy image location or link location (most sites I think use image location)

click picture icon, paste image location

med_gallery_5750_278_130972.jpg

ok that works in preview. but is 427 px size not large like original gallery size (800px) like Dyer/sniktawk

so lets's try again but this time from the original gallery image

gallery_5750_278_130972.jpg

YES!!!! That's the ticket!!!! Now if I can just remember how to do this :)

Thanks GW, I get it, will also center image.

sniktawk - agree would be better with total reflection. We were in vehicle so could not change position much. And would have been great if he had bent down to drink, but didn't. And yes, beautiful rocks and water around him. I'll tell ya, I could repeat every day, every second of that safari, our very first, only now would have much better cameras. It would be great, probably the most good photo subjects/scenes of all our safaris, that first one. And not just because it was the first, I line up all photos from all and that safari has the most great "photo opportunities" of all. Maybe next time :)

Excellent indeed.

Although somewhat obscured by the brush, I'll add the shots from my recent safari because of just how special the sighting was.
