It is not a shadow it is another bird just behind it, the lionesses are the same, I actually deliberately try for these type of shots. Not many work but some do!

Sniktawk, I knew about the lionesses. I do admire the kori bustards, it's a great shot.

Yes, sniktawk, it's mating display. Funny thing about Kori Bustards. In Kenya, at Campi ya Kanzi (I think) we were stopped for a break and I thought I could hear lions. I asked the guides and they told me, no, it's the Kori Bustard and they pointed to where he was. Even knowing it wasn't a lion it still sounded like one.

Kori Bustards are renowned for being disdainful and somewhat aloof but this guy became quite friendly and we still trade emails!
