6 rhino killed in just one night in KwaZulu-Natal reserve

Hluhluwe - Horn poachers have killed another six rhino in a single night shoot-up in KwaZulu-Natal's flagship Hluhluwe-Imfolozi reserve.

It is understood that 11 gunshots were heard around 00:00 on Sunday.

there appears  to be a problem with the KZ Natal conservation authorities  with

 

  • massive executive rewards as the on the ground rangers are poorly resourced
  • lack of money to fuel for the vehicles and to pay for ranger patrols on overtime
  • unqualified appointees with political connections but little conservation background on the board  of the authority

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife field rangers shot and killed two suspected rhino poachers after a gunfight at the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi game park in the early hours of Sunday morning.

- A national task team set up to combat rhino poaching around the country has arrested a Hazyview couple in KwaZulu-Natal for illegal possession of a rhino horn, rifle parts and ammunition.

there is no mention of where the horn is likely to be from

 

Unfortunately when arrests are made they are usually low level poachers, not the key organisers
