@Peter Connan On page 1 you indicate a worry about a decline in the standard of your bird photography, I certainly wish mine would decline to this standard. Favourite of your most recent posts, image 1 of the Malachite Kingfisher series. Superb.

That is a really dark specimen of the Whiskered Tern, you managed to catch @Peter Connan! Excellent set of shots, of course.

Judging by the all black cap I don't really think so, just a darker version than I have seen so far.

Now here's one I am not too sure about, but I also have no idea what else it could be. It looks nothing like the picture in my book, but the book says the colour is extremely variable, and it does look like some photos I have seen on the web, and the range is correct:

It's a Mountain Wheatear, fear not. My book says "Female is uniform sooty-brown except for white rump and outer tail feathers" That's the bird in your photo to a T and I have a match:-

Go for it.

Er, not really Peter. The Brownish underparts and Rufous rear end suggest it is a Familiar Chat which also has brown ear coverts..

Sorry.

Not too sure about the Mountain Wheatear but it's such a perfect shot of the female of the species I'll have go along with it:D

147) African Pied Wagtail

Bontkwikkie Motacilla aguimp

About a month ago, I stopped somewhere on the Orange river, and made camp. I had hardly stopped, or these two were perched on my car. They were so tame, I could rummage around in the car while they sat on the door-frame, wooing each other. It was a bit of a mistake to leave the window open though...

No @xelas, they like my car. They use it as a bank, to make deposits...

I don't want to tempt fate now, but they have never made deposits on me.
