30 posts in this topic

Go to your profile, via your avatar image on the top right of the page.

Click cover photo and follow the prompts, voila.

Then whenever someone mouseovers your details, your profile box looks a lot nicer :)

Please experiment and let me know the results. Matt

Also at the same time, don't forget to upload a profile photo if you haven't already done so.

@Game Warden Coolio! On a mobile you have to use the menu and choose account, profile and then choose the greyed out photo icon at the top right.

@Game Warden Happy to oblige, after all your hard work it's the least I could do. Besides Sunday night telly is rubbish and no booze on a school night 😬

@everyone else, update this topic when you've done your cover photo so we can all have a look :)

I did mine :)  Do you have an optimum size in pixels?  I used one I had done for Facebook, it was too small at 851 x 315 (which is the FB cover photo size) but it was upscaled to fit and it looks okay. Still, it would be nice to know the exact pixel size.

Although I don't have or use any mobile device, using a 27-inch iMac, the cover photo does look nice, as seen above.

Thank you for letting us know about this feature.

I made a jpeg about 2000x400 so it would look OK on a large screen.

I had a few attempts before I got the subject of the image clear of the text, at least on my computer. I assume that different browsers and hardware will lead to variations in the  display.

That's the beach near my house.  I went in November to practice shooting sunrises...it was brutally cold that morning but still gorgeous!

When I was selecting a cover photo I couldn't think of anything long and stretched out for the narrow space.

Ha! I lack creative imagination.

After seeing yours above, I'm impressed!

That's a great one, John.

Wow! Then it was a sunrise, after all.

I wasn't sure what your cover photo was when I wrote my comment, so I hedged and just mentioned the sun, without being specific as to time of day.

As you live in the eastern United States, that must then be a sunrise, I thought, but was uncertain.

Unless you'd been somewhere out on Cape Cod looking back.

Now I know. Thanks so much for giving the background context.

Ha! My photo shows spring tulips growing in the Forbidden City, beside Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

BTW: I like your new avatar photo.

I went for a flock of black crowned cranes from my first visit to Zakouma, this was an easy choice because I've already used the same image for the same purpose on my Flickr site, as it's a panorama only a section of it shows up, I may at some point try adjusting it to fit more of it in or change it. Originally when I joined Flickr I chose a forest buffalo as my avatar photo there but then more recently changed it to a Central African one rather than the Cape buffalo I've used here. If I think of a better photo to use as a cover or take a photo I like better I might change the cranes. As the option is there to change it, I might choose a selection of photos and change it every now and again until I find the perfect fit.

@JohnR @janzin @Tom Kellie @amybatt @Kitsafari I am loving all your profile photos and as JohnR notes they do look different on different devices. Mine isn't strictly Safari, but dog sledding in Norway last year. It was seriously the most fun I've had since I was a child!

I changed mine to use an image that would better fit the elongated format. Took me a long time to figure out a good size, I ended up with 1500 x 300. Had to reverse it so that the text wasn't over the jaguar's face. And while I was at it I changed my profile photo too!

Don't forget if you haven't already done so, upload a cover photo for your profile, easy and quick to do, have a look through some of the replies above for some ideas.

What's stopping you? And if you still have a grey anonymous avatar image, time to get that sorted too.
