This was a bird we really wanted to see - and it was very common.

It was interesting that Avocets and Stilts are classified so close together in our bird book. They certainly have a lot of similar featurres, but the mating behaviour (before, during and after) was virtually identical)

Nice captures. I too recently witnessed the mating rituals of the Stilts , quite fascinating that there is a set pattern every time.

Brilliant shots of the Stilts and Avocets, and the Little Grebe chicks is a wonderful sighting!

A very productive Mallorca trip, especially enjoyed the "specials" like the Subalpine Warbler.

I saw a small brown bird on a distant tree -and just got a couple of poor shots before it flew off. I confess I didn't know at the time that it was a Wryneck!

I have posted a female Stonechat already in the UK, but wanted to add the male as well. We saw many of them during our stay. They are very good birds for beginners like us as they are colourful and sit on top of a raised branch. They then fly about and return to a similar branch close to the original. That means even we can see them!

The other advantage of continuing to take pictures of Stonechat, is that a few of them turn out to be Winchat!

Larks are difficult. This is idntified by location and behaviour as much as appearance.

A very common bird - but I have never seen this behaviour before - a really prolonged, serious looking fight.
