356. Eurasian Jay, Peckham, 17.11.17

I have struggled to photograph this bird all year and finally I got a photo through the front window of my house.

357. Pied or White Wagtail (Motacilla Alba), Shropshire, 24.12.17

I ignored this bird, mistakenly thinking that the Pied Wagtail found in Britain was the same as that found in South Africa. Given South Africa's Pied Wagtail (Motacilla aguimp) is named the "African Pied Wagtail" I have no idea why I thought this! So I've had to hastily crop an extract from a shot of another subject.

I don't want to end with such an EBC so I'll include a better shot of the Common Buzzard (taken November 22nd, 2017).

By my count (I should have used a spreadsheet....it would make this a lot easier!), I have 357 birds - 259 from South Africa, 83 from Britain and 15 from North America.

I don't expect that I'll match this year's total next year but I would like to up my British count. Thanks again to everyone who followed and to everyone who competed. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I would have thought you might at least have seen a Reliant Robin ?:D

Anyway you achieved an excellent total for the year, there were one or two of us that ended up very close together. Pleased with mine and I'm sure you are with yours.

cheers H.N.Y Dave aka Rodney.

Congratulations on concluding your BY, very much enjoyed jt, especially all the interesting places in SA. And I'm still very jealous about your fantastic Great Bittern sighting. Looking forward to your next one!
