Beautiful shots. I´m pretty sure I saw exactly the same Western-Banded Snake Eagle at exactly the same spot.

We went to Iceland for the weekend, to try and see the Northern Lights (failed :(). Saw a couple of new birds, but nothing compared to what it must be like in the summer...

We did see flocks of harlequin ducks, but were unable to catch any on camera

So this means I now have 5 weeks to find 3 new birds in the UK.....

a sunny duplicate to make that task seem easier

And I thought we are going distances for getting a few more additions to our Big Year ! Sorry for the missing aurora borealis; have you at least got any of the famous icebergs on black sand photos?

Whereabouts @Towlersonsafari ?

the one from my garden that I am lacking is a coal tit, but they are rare guests and the other one I tried for in the summer was a red kite

we are off to Devon/Cornwall at the beginning of December, so I was hoping for some sea birds or migrating species that I haven’t already seen to make up the numbers. Still I shouldn’t complain, I am already 98 up on last year....

Hello @Tdgraves  its funny how certain birds decide to be elusive.Good luck with your search-we rarely see coal tits in our garden although i can never work out why. One answer on Hawfinches is that they are wherever I am not, as I have gone several places to see them recently and  missed out each time-although did see a stoat which is a fair compensation! if you are on Twitter there is actually a twitter feed @Hawfinches that gives details of where they have been sighted.depending on how keen you are the northamptonshire birds website gives updates on sightings -i notice you are in Cambridgeshire-you could do a swoop for Red Kites -lots near Oundle -and Hawfinches like Hornbeam trees in winter-wish I knew what one looked like-and at the moment seem to be hoovering up Yew berries-my bird ap says they like churchyards in Winter-which seems very specific but i assume refers to the Yews. anyway-Good Luck!  Do you think @xelas is disturbing the Hawfinches in his mad dash for birds to add to his collection, thus causing the Great  Hawfinch invasion?

I would not put anything past him. He will be clicking away at midnight on New Year's eve.

Keep on trying for Coalies. Devon has promise of good things to sail past the 350.

And indeed I will , hehehe. If not, for sure early morning next day, a boat trip with a birder/guide is already booked. An adequate gift for the two of us, wouldn't you say so?! Only problem is, those birds will count only in Big Year 2018 B).

Hawfinches are still around, I have seen them in Seewinkel, and a Bullfinch yesterday near my home.

@Tdgraves if you will find a good fare on Easyjet you can come to Ljubljana, and I can guarantee you a Coal Tit, accompanied by Crested Tit, Great Tit, Blue Tit and March Tit, all at the same time and place. Plus, today it was 14 C ... plus ;).

That's the trouble with Christmas. A waste of a good birding day.
