  • a church roof collapses  during the service  on the weekend many people dead and injured  ,the discussion is that the metal supports were insufficient in quantity  and of poor quality , the design was poor with insufficient supports to keep up the roof , the builders were not skilled enough and the building regulations were not being followed
  • they make a mess of it just when a who lot of people were around as the bishop was being installed , it is not good enough

the government  has announced that terrorist group Boko Haram  has been evicted from the  sambisa forest area, a region infamous for the mass abduction of school girls from a boarding school

this was shortly after followed by a video announcement  from BH saying that they are still in the area

wherever they are they create pain and misery

Governements are pretty weak in the developing world. Buddy networking is way stronger and

that is one of the main reasons such things happen (roofs collapsing)

The church wants a cheap roof and goes to someone how gives the church a cheap roof, the middleman collects and the constructor saves wherever he can.

I read on a  quartz Africa  news bulletin  that  an investment scheme originating out of Russia  called the Mavrodi Mondial Monebox , MMM for short is doing the rounds in Nigeria

unfortunately  people are falling for the claims of a 30 to 40% return per month

the economy has had problems so they are trying to make money without any thoughts of if it is sensible or not

it is called a Ponzi scheme, the earlier  investors are paid of from what later investors pay in

if the truth be known this is not an investment, if it sounds too good if probably is

perhaps things are changing

GLOBAL WITMESS  a NGO which specialises in resources deals, corruption and environmental issues announces that the financial crimes commission of the Nigerian govt is charging energy majors Agip and Shell , and former justice and oil ministers over dubious practices in a rather dubious massive oil deal

all are charged with conspiracy , the former ministers also have money laundering charges

these are in additional to Italian court charges

there can be a first time for everything

the charges are being laid in the high court

the concession was given to a company controlled by the then oil minister and a son of the then president

the production rights were sold of privately in an inproper manner , skipping out on competitive tendering of any sort

there is pressure from the Nigerian parliament to take back the oil lease and let it out again using proper competitive  tendering  and a proper payment , not sold on the cheap

Global Witness has an excellent report on this called SHELL AND ENI'S MISADVENTURES IN NIGERIA

The last military regime  of Sani Abacha was a high point for corruption it is the family reported  stole USD 4.3 billion from the state

His widow tried to fly out with 38 suitcases full of cash

it is reported that he died from a heart attack in the bed of a prostitute
