What a great start in the Pantanal. Lovely photos.

The Capped Heron is beautiful -it was one of my favourites when we were there. (We were not so much in to birds when we were there bu really enjoyed seeing the birdlife - it probably contributed a lot to our current level of interest!)

(And well done on reaching 200)

Thanks all! For some reason, I just can't get my math right. The White-back Stilt is 181 not 180. I removed 3 instead of 2 numbers for my 2 duplicates. So, I will start at #205 now. In my day job as a Brain Surgeon, I just am not used to being so detailed. Just kidding, I am not a Brain Surgeon and now you know why.

Here is part 2 from Pouso Alegre and the Transpantaneira:

Thanks Tony!

I logged in this morning to post some more pictures, but got sidetracked by BushDogs lovely Macaw post in the birding section. That's the trouble with Safaritalk..you can't log on for a "quick" look or post. You get lost in all the fantastic content.

Anyway, the ironic part of this is that on my list next by pure coincidence is.....

@@Atdahl, wow, so many gorgeous new birds. I think the Blue Crowned Mot-mot is my favourite, and I like its name. The tail of the Squirrell Cuckoo is so long it must be a hindrance at times.

Well, Alan, also myself I have started this year as a non-birder ... and look at us now!

Already Costa Rica section is filled with beautiful birds, and your own backyard holds its fair share of colourful and interesting specimens, but Brasil ... just fabulous!

My vote for "The Photo of The Year" goes to #271 - Black Skimmer.

OK, time to wrap up the year since it's highly unlikely I will see a new bird in the next two days. I combed through my archives and waited to post a few of these hoping to get better pictures. We also made a post Christmas trip to a nearby state park which was very fruitful.

It sure has been fun (and a bit of work) doing this big photo year. But, I am glad that I did it. My initial goal was 250 and then I raised it to 300. So, 341 far surpasses what I thought I would see and I still have about a dozen unidentified bird photos that will just have to go uncounted.

The best part about doing this was definitely following everyone else and seeing all the fantastic photos posted of birds from around the world. I still don't call myself a "birder", but maybe I doth protest too much... ;)

Some great birds to conclude your Big Year. I agree, it was really wonderful that we had birds in the Big Year threads from all continents - only Antarctica was missing!
