The Rufous-naped lark take-off series is beautiful!

Thanks @@Peter Connan

Shows that the 7D mark II has better burst firing results than the mark I, where you could only really rely on the first on or two, (if you were lucky) shots being in focus

FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's my idea of a stop-in-your-tracks photograph!

Had I been in your shoes, seeing the cuckoo would have set my heart racing.

Yesterday @@Game Warden requested a refresh for the “Show us your spiny acacia...” thread.

With your lovely image above, you've done just that!

Very nice swallow, too.

Thank you.

Really like the Crowned Eagle and the Lark fly-off especially. Since I also have a 7d I am curious - what AF settings are you using for trying to get shots of perching birds flying off?

Link to comment

@@michael-ibk I have it on AI-focus with back button focussing. On AV with quite high ISO (it was overcast) but high enough to give a shutter speed >1000, but 1/2000 if not so overcast. Then press the button and hope!

Ah interesting, I necer use AI-Focus, seems to work excellently for you. Out of the many settings options, do you use one of the 4 single point (or with "helpers"), of the 2 zone or the full-automatic option?

My OH hates it as well and uses one shot! I usually have it set on single point but If I have time to adjust the settings (and especially on a larger subject I.e. An animal, I would extend it to the 4 adjacent points, but often there is no time.....

As far as I can tell, that is it for the new species (unless I find some photos of an as yet unidentified bird as I do my TR). 20 new species not bad for 1 trip....
