TonyQ's Year (A beginner's tale)

@@TonyQ, yes well done. 106 species photographed on one trip is great. Now that you have the "itch" you can scratch it locally and keep the numbers going up. I think the race to 300 has begun!

It has been fairly quiet for new species, but one of the pleasures of the summer has been seeing the development of baby birds. In our garden, we introduced suet block feeders (on the recommendation of @Tdgraves and @@Zim Girl )

These have been a great success with tits in particular, but we even got a Great Spotted Woodpecker one day.

Blue Tits used them a lot when (I presume) they were feeding youngsters - then they brought the youngsters to the feeders and fed them from the suet bloc

A couple of days later, some babies came without an adult (taken while sitting at garden table, 23.06.2016)

@@TonyQ Well done getting more than 200. I've just gone back through this thread, some nice images added since I last looked.

I like the compositions of Little Bee-eater in post #246 & Three-banded Plover #253 and a lovely image of the displaying Kori Bustard in #253.

love the Black necked Grebe @@TonyQ and baby coal tit- a bird thta is very seldom seen in our garden. The jackdaws and magpies seem to be very food on the suet logs where we are!

@@TonyQ, come to the States, we have LOTS of Cuckoos here. Heck, a couple are running for President. Wait...you were probably talking about birds right?

There is a Yellow-billed Cuckoo around here but I have yet to see one. I would be very happy with just a proof shot of one though.
