Testing inserting images from iPad. As expected I have to post from an app such as Photos on iPad as an attachment. The iOS version of the editor is primitive so no options for left or right aligned or centred. No tabs in the iOS editor either since there's no TAB key so cannot position images; just like HTML v1.

Which was shrunk to 1000 pixels, same as before :)

@JohnR What do you think the new max size should be? As is, or larger?

@Game Warden It is difficult to say. 1000 pixels images display nicely when inline in topics and if storage cost is an issue it is a reasonable compromise. Maybe some of the more serious photographers have a view? I guess that's a vote to stay the same unless someone has a strong reason for a change.

I've felt that a number of the images I've uploaded would have benefitted from a slightly larger format.

At present it's acceptable, but a mild size increase, or at least the option to do so, would be welcome.

This isn't intended as a complaint, but rather is in response to your comments above.

so I'm testing the new uploader too. I'm not sure I understand the difference between "insert other media" and attaching files, so I'll see...

Using "insert other media"

using choose files:

leopard_JZ5_2196cfx.jpg

okay, it seems to do exactly the same thing.

But no... now I see that the first image is still on my server, whereas the 2nd image now resides on SafariTalks server. So since I'd rather keep all my images on my server, I'm best off using "insert other media" via a URL (same way as we did it before.)

And what happens if I just use a link without using Insert other Media:

Oh! It just puts it in automatically--that's handy.

Now that I have that sorted out I will start to work on my overdue trip report ;)

one thing I've noticed is that the new system is reducing/compressing my images when they are in-line. This results in them losing some sharpness (notice the blurry lettering in the caption and signature in post 510 &511 above.) If one clicks on them, one then gets the full size in the slideshow, and they look as intended.

They are usually 1020 x 700, this is my standard size with frames that I make for my own web site. I assume they are slightly larger than your maximum. :(

@janzin I think ST reduces any image over 1000 pixels longest side. I noticed it too but decided to live with it.

@Pamshelton3932 Safaritalk has an autosave facility so if you page back to the topic post you were making, you should be able to retrieve your work.
