The second interesting sighting was the observation of 5 cheetahs. I had seen the top of their ears in the tall grass, the day before in the end of the afternoon. I stayed a couple of hours with them, before they decided to disappear far away where there was no roads.

Those lions in the mist were lovely, not one of the expected sightings at all. Great leopard viewing. What a trip.

Thank you very much for your appreciation.

Indeed, I was not expecting mist at all, all the more because there was no mist the morning before, and certainly not with lions. What a bonus.

That cheetah mum seems like a super Mum to me - to have raised 4 successful cubs to that age! Sounds like a couple of awesome hours with them ....... I'm guessing pic 3 is the mum?

No, I was not driving myself. Thank you for the compliment.

May I ask which company you used and who was your driver. He/she found you some great sightings!

Well Hari, That's a good question and I can't give you an answer. I think that pic 3 is the same as the one on the left on pic 2 and the one on the right on the penultimate.

I do not keep documentation on past trips and I am afraid I do not remember the name of the company and the driver. I'm sorry

Good morning.

Can you, please, explain what you mean by "a bit strange" and, besides, I do have some recollection about this trip and many others.

But, I am inclined to forget names and details about lodges, camps, drivers, guides, sightings,...... if they were not above average, and furthermore, I do not keep a diary, like my wife does, and she was not with me on this one.

As far as great sightings are concerned, they were not found, except in the Matiti where there was nobody, neither by my driver, neither by me.

In wide open places like Serengeti, it's not too difficult to spot animals and cars already on a sighting, even in green season.

You've shown a new perspective on vultures.

Lynn,

No rains when I was in Ndutu, mid May 2011.

I should have asked: What were the rains like during the rainy season that preceded May, if you recall. Was it a rather normal May or was there something odd about May in 2011, if you remember.

Great stuff! Lions in the mist is also a different perspective of that species. Always nice to find a new angle on familiar species, and you have.

Your photos are ridiculous! Love them so much! Especially the Leopard sighting, wow, what a great day you had. I also love that you take pictures of the birds, they are such a nice part of safari that a lot of people don't care for. I think of them as ornaments in a tree, all so different and special.

Lynn,

I do not recall what where the rains like during the months preceeding May. What I can say is that in 2011 there was less rains than in 2010 in the second half of May.

THank you for your appreciation on the lions and the vultures.

I am glad you like my photos.

I am also glad to hear that you care for birds. And you are perfectly right, a lot of people don't, which is very sad.

I think that to learn to appreciate birds, you have to become a regular visitor. I must admit that on my first safari, I was only focused on big cats, elephants, giraffes, hippos and animals of similar size.

The day I went to the Moru Kopjes, I went to a place, I visited the year before, located at the extreme south west of the area.

It is a flat rock, on which you can find a big boulder. The previous year, there was, close to the boulder, a superb adult male lion.

I was secretly hoping to find him back at the same place.

But he was not there. Nevertheless, I was not disappointed, at the place he was, I found a lioness with 2 young cubs.

2010 situation

Those are WOW moments - Lions next to an impressive boulder like that. The rock looks very similar to a place called, Ngong rock in the seronera area where we stopped for morning tea last year.

What can I say???? Fabulous .......
