Panthera Pardus

Have seen four in the wild, all at Mountain Zebra National Park (MZNP) and all on night drives. MZNP has a reputation for aardwolf sightings and they have been seen there even in the day

We saw a couple on one drive and the guide told us that they are monogamous and pair till one dies.

In various respects a terrific photograph!

The expression, color, focus and surrounding context are so pleasing.

Having never seen an aardwolf, your fine image is particularly appreciated.

Thank you for sharing it on Safaritalk.

Hi everyone

I don't think I saw that topic opened already so I'm doing it. If I made a mistake, I will let the webmaster correct it ;)

Please find below a few photos we could take on this rare (or I'd rather say: uncommon to see) but so cute animal.

There is already a "show us your Aardwolf photo"-thread.

http://safaritalk.net/topic/12407-show-us-your-aardwolves/

Indeed! I was also surprised that such a thread would not be opened yet. Sorry about that. I guess the webmaster could merge the 2 threads together...

Whether he does or not, great captures! I especially like the first one from Samburu, with the aardwolf lifting its head out of the burrow.

I had really wanted to see aardwolf on our last safari, but we struck out, so I am a bit wistful in seeing these terrific photos. Thanks for sharing them.

May I please add my voice to others in praising your superb aardwolf images?

It's a species I've never observed nor would I expect to see.

Your fine photographs bring out their charm.

Thank you for posting them.

Lumo Conservancy, Kenya February 2008

I've been lucky with two other sightings - a lone one on a night drive at El Karama and 3 young ones during the day at Shaba (all in Kenya).

Aye, aye @@Game Warden. Wish these were better photos, but it was very early in the morning on a cloudy day.

What?

Lumo Conservancy again!

After having enjoyed your pangolin photos, taken in Lumo Conservancy, I'm impressed to see more from there.

Your posting these images has put it on my mental map.

One of those “someday it would be very nice to visit” locations.

Thank you for the nice image and for the reference to the Lumo Conservancy.

Happy to oblige @@Game Warden.

Ever since 2010 I've been labouring under the misapprehension that I'd seen a Striped Hyena during our trip to the Maasai Mara (Porini Lion Camp) however the good folk on ST have recently pointed out my error so, on Matt's orders :), here they are in their correct topic.

A sudden movement out to my right caught my attention and these 5 images were the total number of I got in a grand total of 2.2 seconds!! Our guide ID'd it as a Striped Hyena but given that: a) he was driving, b probably only saw it for less than a second (or two at most), c) it was a long way off (these are cropped DX 300mm images) and d) he didn't have the luxury of leisurely looking at blown-up images, I don't hold the miss-identification against him.

That's a remarkable portrait. Both richly detailed and poignant.

The Botswana Tourist Board could do no better on an edvertisement promoting Duba Plains.

This photo was captured using a Canon EOS 1Ds Mk III and a 500mm f/4L Lens (the old one still)

I tried to calm the busy background by stopping down to f/4.

I can only say that I'm looking forward to visiting Tswalu Kalahari next year. I deliberately chose to go when I knew that the sightings of "specials" would be at their best. The sequence of photos showing an aardwolf running is especially stunning. I've only seen one once before and that was in the Kalama Concession when I was staying at Saruni Samburu last October.

Ithink that posting pictures of an Aardwolf, Pangolin and Aardvark as your first 3 posts is an impressive start to your Safaritalk membership :)
