We'd begun a morning game drive when this young female Ardeotis kori, Kori Bustard, was spotted walking beside the track.

The milk chocolate tones of her plumage pleased my eye, as did her elegant carriage.

Bustards have a knack for appearing when least expected, often in the midst of quiet sections of game drives when little else is occurring.

That was the case with this Eupodotis melanogaster, Black-bellied Bustard, which was stalking among the grass stalks with the characteristic bustard jerking gait.
