Car Hire Papers Zimbabwe

Hello,

if we pick up our Hilux in Vic Falls, the import papers, etc will not be in our name. This is apparently illegal in Zimbabwe. The person who brings the car into the country has his name on the documentaion and needs to be in the car during the trip. If we are stopped at road blocks we are likely to have problems.

How do we get around this? Our hire company wishes us to collect from Kasane to avoid these issues for us, but it wastes precious time plus the extra hassle of getting and importing from Kasane into Zim.

Any help or what to say to our hire company to solve the issue?

Thank you!

Its not exactly illegal for the importer not to be in the vehicle but the local police sometimes do have issues. What is your itinerary for this trip as there are a couple of ways that this could be handled.

@@SelfDriveAfrica. We have returned from our trip. Managed to get the papers in my husbands name at the border. It was checked at road blocks, so we were pleased that we had made the effort to do the name change. Had a wonderful trip and will certainly be going back!

Perfect. We have had many questions like this in the past and were in Zimbabwe for 3 weeks over the elections where the question was raised again.

Glad you had a great Trip - Zimbabwe is magnificent and worthwhile place to visit.
