Thanks @Rainbirder - I'm currently doing a crash course in photography and have a 7D, which I've never taken on safari, so this is very informative for my trip in August.

@Game Warden I'm running low on my "Picture a Day" stock, so I'll be taking lots of photos to keep me going until my next trip (probably 2016 when my youngest will be 4 years old - but if he's not ready I'll still travel with the older two).

 

That will mean at least 1000 decent photos just to keep "Picture a Day" going  :)
