What else do you want to see? You could go to Chambal for gharials, jackal, gangetic dolphin, and palm civet. I would have suggested Gujarat, but you say that's out, but flights are quite reasonable in India. Little Rann and Velavadar would both be good sites for different mammals.

 

what about the desert area of Rajasthan? Or Bera (for leopard). There is also the area around Pangot and Nainital which is great for birding but some distance away by overnight train (but we did this journey and Corbett from mathura).

What about Corbett Park? It´s quite different from Ranthambore, and offers wild elephants, gharials and good birding.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm think that I'll probably try and go to Chambal and Soor Sarovar Bird Sanctuary. I was considering Little Rann for wolves and foxes but I think I'll save that for next time.

Not the best sighting due to the crappy weather and the fact that he was a fair distance away. Still fun though, particularly as it was on a walking safari. Very different experience compared to the 5+ vehicle scrum you get in India

This is one of the female cubs nearly 2 years old at the Telia lake, late evening sitting in the lake . There was a long que of the gypsy vehicles which were forced as it was nearing closing time and all were driven out we got nearly 3 minutes with this female

This was taken around 3 minutes earlier to the post before , only that the angle of light direction was different , photography is always the play of light .

This one is a dominant Male in Tadoba, called as Waghdoh Male ( more related to the area he is found)

i have been to Tadoba once till now, my favourite is Kanha the best of Jungles i feel in India ( yes corbett is wonderful but still have not got a chance to go there)

been to Kanha, Ranthambore, Pench and Bandhavgad apart from Tadoba but find Kanha to be the richest in terms of diversity of flora and fauna

 

Currently the tiger sightings are better in Tadoba for sure, apart from Bandhavgad

Very, very sad to hear about T-17 -Sundari - here are some images from my encounter with this gorgeous lady in Ranthambhore in March 2012. My blurry one-click photos certainly don't do her justice but I comfort myself saying it's the thought that counts

And while on the subject of Ranthambhore tigers, here are a few of a huge male who has reportedly killed (though not eaten) humans. Not sure what his status is now, but when I saw him, he was near the temple with idiotic pedestrians trying to approach him on foot! Along came a warden (also on foot), yelling at the pedestrians to go away while brandishing a wooden stick at them. That wooden stick startled this huge tiger into jumping up and running away like a pussy cat. Only in India

We were fortunate to see this incredible male in Ranthambhore February 2014. There were actually two, but this is our best shot. He was simply huge. The size just really surprised me, and we have seen some big lions in our travels.
