Game Warden
Old footage of a camera safari in the middle of the 20th c. Unusual as it photographic, rather than hunting. Note at 03.37 - "Cheetah, since ancient time the enemy of man"

Nyamera
At the end of the film they shoot a lioness from their vehicle.

Wow!!! I noticed that most of the animals appear skittish. But, what lovely footage from back in the day.

I suppose at some point down the road, they realized that photo safaris were needed - otherwise, the hunters would wipe out all of the species. huh.gif
Game Warden
Yes, that scene looks montaged and lacks continuity from the earlier imagery. But my impression overall is that the film was shot for an early wildlife documentary, much like the work of Martin and Osa Johnson.

Who are "they"?

It were responsible hunters who created the first game reserves and parks. And it were hunters who were the first game wardens and created the first visitor camps to arouse some interest for conservation and nature's beauty among urban people.

In that case, The responsible hunters are the "they"!!!

Matt, I think that there is something wrong with my video … I didn't see any 'jungle' only plains and scrub. biggrin.gif

I think that it is a little known fact that back in the '40s there were more recorded human deaths from cheetah attack than from any other predator, justly giving them the title of 'feared predator of man'!!! ohmy.gif

The lion and eland scene looked staged in my view as the camera angle was looking down on the two, almost as if they were in an enclosure. Then the eland was stiff as a board as soon as it was killed which seemed a bit odd.

The footage of the rhinos was wonderful, 3 together.

An interesting, if slightly strange look at history.

I totally agree with you Twaff, the lion and Eland must have been staged. They had the camera in a tree.

Interesting what you say about the cheetah. I would never have guessed. And I also didn't see a jungle.

All said it certainly is interesting to watch the animals before they became conditioned to vehicles. Even that lioness apparently charging the vehicle.

Much has changed.

Just in case anyone thinks that I'm an idiot … that was a joke!!!!!

I don't want Hari coming after me in defence of cheetahs.
