Apologies for my lack of participation in the last few weeks. Sadly, I am now back in KL after an enjoyable week in Cambodia.

I have kept a page at Alamy for the last year or so, and have have been relatively successful with a small portfolio. One particular photo had a sold a couple of times, so I was wondering who it was used by. I have found out that a photo taken at Kwando Lebala is being used for the front cover on the US version of the new Number One Ladies Dectective Agency Book.

There you have it, Safaritalk is now part of a Botswanan book series I am sure we all enjoy reading.

http://www.amazon.com/Tea-Time-Traditional...0142&sr=8-1

The photo was taken at Twin Pools in October 2007. The sun had already set, though the storm clouds to the east were still being lit by an incredible after glow.

Cheers Guys.

I was quite surprised when I realised. Though it feels like a reward/appreciation for all those long days of patiently waiting in the bush.

John, I remember your post about that, on an Italian book?

Russell,

Yes, the Italian edition of a book, Notte Dentro, by a France-based author from Cameroon, Leonora Miano.

SafariTalk will be famous laugh.gif

Actually, I've just had an enquiry from the US for the same photo for 'home decor'. My very low fee of 50 USD has elicited a stunned non-response. I don't care much. I might, if I relied on photography for a living. But I reckon that all those photographers who are now offering their work for peanuts (I could name one or two who appear here) are devaluing their skills so much that they might as well join the $2 discount store franchise...you know, made in China and bugger all the hard-working pros who make a good product.

Russell,

Congrats on the image and congrats on the sales.

I must admit I would not find patiently waiting in the bush all that hard to do.

That's fabulous, what a great place to have your image used!
I've only ever tracked down one of my trickle of Alamy sales, with the help of a poster over on Fodors.
All I knew was that a photo I'd taken in Addo had been used as a front cover on a direct mail travel brochure in North America. I posted a thumbnail and luckily, one of the regulars was actually sent that brochure in the mail!
She posted it across to me so I could see it in the flesh, as it were!
What a thrill!
I'd say that being on the front cover of that book is far more thrilling than that!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!

John, they clearly think there is a catch to your pricing!

I too struggle to understand why people offer the photos at such a cheap rate, thankfully, wildlife photography in Africa is probably one of the least affected markets.

Thanks, Kavey, things are difficult to track, so I guess I was just lucky this time.

Russell,

That is a beautiful photo of what I consider to be one of the nicest places on earth. It looks a lot different now that the water levels are high.

Strangely enough I associate the place with with G & T rather than T!

Cheers

Ken

Ken, could not agree more.

Having just spent the last 6 weeks in Asia, at some so called must see sites, it only re-enforced that home is where the heart is.............
